Twitter Hosts Remembrance Day!

The 11th November every single year marks Remembrance Day, this is a day where people join together in order to commemorate the First World War which ended at the eleventh hour on the eleventh day of the eleventh month way back in 1918.

Back in 1918 it was known as Armistice Day, the day when warring forces agreed to stop fighting. Already millions had lost their lives fighting for their country and it is these people who we remember on this day.

King George V ordered that a two minute silence at exactly 11 0’clock would be held to commemorate those people who fought, battled and lost their lives in order to save our country. Remembrance Day marks the fact that all the people who died didn’t die in vain; most importantly though it marks the Great War as “the war to end all wars”.

In Flanders Fields

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead.
Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Love, and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields

Take up our quarrel with the foe
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch, be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields

-John McCrae

Wrote on 3 May 1915, after he witnessed the death of his friend, Lieutenant Alexis Helmer, 22 years old, the day before Flanders Fields is considered one of the most notable poems written in world war 1.

Flanders fields is were where the battle took place and where many lost their lives and were buried marked by a simple wooden cross. People wear poppies on Remembrance Day and everyone here at Brick technology web design are wearing them with pride. Poppies are significant because it was these flowers which grew in the battlefields and became a symbol of new life and hope for a better future but also they are a sign of peace.

As we have mentioned recently Socials are becoming more and more popular for many people to use and even though this battle took place 93 years ago Twitter are going to be holding a full Remembrance Day service today and also on Sunday.

They will use their standard 140 characters for readings, hymns, the last post as well as the names of those who gave their lives to save our country. Further to this veterans will be making their contributions too.

The @Poppy_Tweet project is run by a group of Methodists and is aimed at bringing together the traditional elements of prayer and workship with we are familiar with on this date and putting a new and exciting technological twist onto it.

Carrying out the service on Twitter means that those we cannot physically attend a service can still be involved. It is 2011 which will hold the first ever Remembrance Service on the micro-blogging site.

Do not hesitate, show your support and follow the Remembrance Service:
